The first day of WonderCon went by pretty quickly. Since I last attended the convention, it’s absolutely exploded in size. The convention hall is a lot larger than it was in 2012, and this time around there is a lot more to do. I started off the day by checking out the convention floor so I could kill time before the Batman panel. I managed to get a couple pictures before the exhibit floor opened.
Just as I had found the Nintendo booth, I ran into a friend of mine and his younger brothers. In doing so we got ambushed by two stars of the web series Assassin Nine. It turns out they have been promoting the series in character while walking the convention floor.
Before heading to the Batman Panel, I took the opportunity to snap some more pictures of cosplayers.
The Batman panel in and of itself was not really earth-shattering. Given the recent controversy surrounding the Batgirl #41, I was expecting someone to bring that up, and I wasn’t disappointed. I won’t get into too much detail, but I felt the way that Brandon Fletcher handled the questions regarding that incident was done tactfully and in a way that explained why it doesn’t work with what they’re doing in Batgirl. The topic of variant covers is something I may write about in the near future.
After the panel, I met up with one of our readers for a couple of beers before resuming my day. I also encountered a Deadpool cosplayer who pretended to be our server. Comic artist Darwyn Cook stopped by our table and thought it was amusing that Matt (the guy I met up with) had an uncanny resemblance to Cameron Stewart.
I rounded out the day by wandering around the convention some more before checking out the premiere of Batman vs. Robin.
