GamerGate has managed to subjugate the social media presence of the Games Developer Conference. The counterculture movement has managed to quell and subdue #GDC2015/#GDC15/#GDCPRESS by running interference with the hashtags by repeatedly clobbering them with pro-gamer material during all hours of the day. This has had an unexpectedly high success rate.
The Games Developer Conference in the past few years has been a bastion for anti-gamer figureheads to meet, mingle, and matriculate in to the social justice academy. The atmosphere of the Games Developer Conference has been shifted from actual game development to the narcisstic delusional whims of people who use word-salad like “micro-agression”,”Intersectionality” and “GenderQueer” .
If you take a look at the website for the event, they have a whole section for “Advocacy” and some of the panels are hosted by prominent anti-gamer chieftains. Zoe Quinn had a panel on March 4th. Other individuals that Reaxxion readers might know who are/were at GDC’s: Leigh Alexander, Katherine Cross, Anita Sarkeesian, Anthony Burch, Brianna Wu, and many more cogs of the machine.
The GDC has become an anti-gamer six day assemblage, where anti-gamers on their company’s/patreon’s/donor’s dime have fun and conspire against pro-gamer outlets. They want to construct and enact anti-gamer policies that will disenfranchise pro-gamer philosophies. Their torment and menacing policies lean on youth ruffian level as seen by them handing out pro-gamer mockery ribbons. Only those with extreme hubris and hostility to GamerGate would pass out ribbons with gold emblem “SJW” letters on one side and “It’s about ethics“ on the other.
Pro-gamers didn’t take their adversaries lightly. They decided to hijack the Twitter hashtags #GDC2015, #GDC15 and #GDCPRESS. The internet is the information highway and as cliche as that sounds to the readers of this article, it holds truest to the anti-gamer crowd who are all on social media and use it to bash their pro-gamer opponents. Neutral audiences would be able to see the collusion, constraints, and coercion influenced by a cabal of anti-gamers. When a nonpartisan is searching info about Valve’s Half Life 3 and gets an injection of information about the sordid character of Zoe Quinn, the person’s views towards anti-gamers will become more negative.
The hashtag battle started off small by commandeering the #GDC2015 hashtag on March 1st. This was a relative success and the GDC had two possible responses. They could do nothing or let their hashtag be influenced by pro-gamer rhetoric, which would boost their traffic but jolt the egos of sensitive anti-gamers. GDC’s media team took the cowards way out and appeased the neurotic anti-gamers by making a new GDC hashtag #GDC15. This had the same discernible effect of the previous hashtag and they moved on to #GDCPRESS.
GDC has shown themselves to be willing and complacent conspirators for anti-gamers. They could have taken the high road and ignored the hijacking of the hashtag since individuals weren’t posting porn/racist/bigoted things. They were posting about factual incidents of anti-gamer collusion and the negative effects it had for all gamers. The latest hashtag has already been taken over by pro-gamer forces over at #GDCPRESS.
GDC and anti-gamers don’t realize that gamers love quests and you’ve given them the Water Temple level of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. These individuals will complete any voyage and sail any sea to win. Their goals aren’t lofty or even extreme. They just want games culture to support actual gamers and not deranged schizo social policies on race/religion/gender.
GDC has been an important battlefield for the pro-gamer coalition. This conference isn’t just a place to conspire and implement wacky academia narcissistic views. This was also a place where they would have some merriment. They get to hang out with other people who think and act the same. GDC is the ultimate echo chamber where they control the power apparatus, and now pro-gamers have managed to burrow themselves in to the anti-gamer’s fortress of solitude.
