One week after getting caught harassing himself over the internet. Brianna Wu claims that PAX East is currently threatened with a sarin gas attack by #gamergate. Extraordinary claim requires extraordinary proof. Is someone actually trying to replicate what the Nazi did during WW2 by turning PAX East into their personal gas chamber room? Or is this another one of Brianna Wu’s ridiculous claims?
In a Twitter image released by a prominent #gamergater meowsticgoesnya, Rubby Johnson is supposed to be the gamergater who wants to gas PAX East. However, all his tweets indicate that this person is clearly against gamergate. Once the entire picture is painted, one can see that this man wants to lock all gamergaters in a gaming convention and then kill them all with sarin gas.
In his other tweets, he stated that wants to kill gamergate supporters by removing them from the planet. Interestingly, all these tweets were posted in October. Is Wu running out of threats to support his victim narrative? Why does he have to make news out of random Twitter posts by a random person back in October? #Gamergate ignored all these threats against us because we understand how the internet works. On the contrary, if the same threats were directed toward Zoe or Anitas, the whole situation would’ve been blown up exponentially.
Victim Narrative
In a perfect world where nobody practices journalism, “#gamergater to sarin gas PAX” would be the narrative presented by the mainstream media. It’s clear how people can easily be misled if they simply look at the first two tweets of Rubby Johnson. A post about killing all gamers in a PAX convention would then be labeled a threat of terrorism planned and organized by #gamergate because of the gamergate hashtag. The mainstream media would leave out the rest out of the details because it doesn’t fit Wu’s victim narrative. They will distort truths and twist statistics in order to get maximum rating without shame.
Forget the fact that nobody in the gaming community knows who Rubby Johnson is. Forget the fact that he was actually threatening the supporters of #gamergate. Forget the fact that not everyone can simply bypass securities and gas a place containing thousands of people. Forget the fact that Rubby Johnson’s posts were from last year.
Brianna Wu took a page out of the Sarkeesian playbook by purposely misleading the public for personal gain. Kotaku and Gamespot has reported that Wu is pulling out of PAX east for “risk of violence” and “death threats.” With one move, Wu snuffed the spotlight out of PAX and puts it on himself once more. His claim of threats is now looming over the convention, overshadowing everything else related to gaming. Thankfully, not everyone brought into her narrative. The sarin gas claim is so outrageous that it wouldn’t have even made it into a Law and Order episode.
While it’s clear that Wu’s PAX claim is completely false, questions regarding Wu and his followers still remain. Why is this Wu character continued to be backed by the majority of mainstream media? Why is nobody investigating his repeated claims of death threats? Why does he still has credibility after getting caught harassing himself red-handed? It’s time to consider if Brianna Wu should be admitted into a mental hospital.
