On January 19th, 2015, three male teens broke into the home of adult film actress Cytherea in southwest Las Vegas Valley. During this home invasion and armed robbery, Cytherea was raped by the assailants while her family was held at gunpoint. They later made off with stolen property from the home in a getaway vehicle. Because of the limited media attention this story has received, adult film actress Mercedes Carrera released an online video criticizing the media and feminists for not giving coverage to stories where women were truly victimized.

False Victims
In the video Mercedes Carrera says, “I have watched false faux victims utilize the world for their own personal and profit aims, claiming victimhood over emails and over comments on Twitter.” This is a response to Anita Sarkeesian and Briana Wu who both are getting verbally “harassed” on Twitter while also receiving death threats. Both of these professional victims have stated that their Twitter harassment is just another example of the misogyny that women face daily, especially in the video game industry, even though Brianna Wu was born a man.
Anita Sarkessian and Briana Wu both have a financial stake in their victimhood. Anita Sarkessian garnered over $150,000 in her Kickstarter campaign to make a couple of Youtube videos that talked about how video games continue to oppress women. In her videos she constantly talks about how women are portrayed negatively in video games while also disabling Youtube comments so that if anyone disagreed their voice would not be heard.
Briana Wu has stated that the lack of success her game has had on Steam Greenlight, a system where gamers can vote if they like a game to be on Steam, is directly attributed to male gamers who hate women. He makes the case that the people who down vote his game actually hate women.
Feminism Hypocrisy
Mercedes Carrera argues that modern feminists claim to care about women, but when push comes to shove and women are in need, those same feminists are silent. She makes the case that people should look at last year’s Rolling Stone article that involved a false rape accusation on the campus of the University of Virginia. This story gained national attention and damaged the reputation of fraternities, the University of Virgina, and some of the men who might have been involved in the story. Nonetheless, the fake victim gained national media attention and sympathy.
Compare this to the attack on Cytherea. She was a real victim who was brutally raped in her home and there has been no feminist outcry. The media has barely even covered this story and so far feminists have not come to her defense. However, feminists are more than happy to come to the defense of Anita Sarkeesian and Briana Wu whenever they are receiving unverifiable harassment on Twitter. It’s too much work for feminists to help a real victim.
Are Gamers The True Enemy Of Women?
Is a guy who plays video game on his couch a real oppressor of women?
In her biggest critique of feminism and the liberal media, Mercedes Carrera says;
You want to talk about violence against women? Why are we not looking at gaps in the prison system? Why are we not looking at all of these societal issues? No, we are going to pick a group of benign people who enjoy gaming as a hobby and we are going to paint and smear them and make them the horrible horrible abusers of women.
