The ScotDrop Charity Marathon, a video game livestream marathon for The AbleGamers Charity, recently tweeted out their schedule, and asked people to signal boost in Twitter by retweeting the information. John Bain, aka TotalBiscuit, takes them at their word and retweets the details of the livestream. The creators of the livestream then lament their poor luck that someone with 390k Twitter followers did what they asked.
I genuinely wish this was something I had made up. I literally can’t even.
Their initial reaction
Upon learning TotalBiscuit retweeted the charity livestream—which, again, I feel I need to point out, is what they asked everyone to do—Durp and Maxwell Tolvo, two of the coordinators of the livestream, begin fretting over what this could mean:
Even when the voice of reason points out that people who participate in charity streams are, you know, generally charitable, that doesn’t stop the whining of these SJWs. This is the mindset, people. Anything #GamerGate touches is dead to them. Forget the hundreds of thousands of dollars donated by #GamerGate supporters for charity. Forget that owner of Infinite Chan and supporter of #GamerGate Fredrick Brennan is disabled. We must be terrible because we didn’t like the fact that Zoe Quinn, a game developer, fornicated with multiple gaming journalists, and that’s where the conversation begins and ends with them. They can’t move on.
Eventually TotalBiscuit finds out his retweet was not appreciated, and one can only think he might have been confused as to why.
TotalBiscuit’s response
I actually believe that Mr. Bain was incredulous at first, believing it must be a joke that someone who tweeted about a charity livestream and asked for retweets was upset that their instructions were followed. He quickly determines that something more sinister is afoot—that these people genuinely do not want the support of #GamerGate supporters, even if it means more money for the disabled.
Harassment Genuine inquiries ensue
Shortly after TotalBiscuit begins tweeting about this, his significant amount of followers becomes curious and raises the questions that any sane, normal, completely unbrainwashed person would ask.
Again, you could be forgiven for thinking I was making this up, but Durp and Tolvo actually think that these tweets are harassment. They even created a Storify about it (worth reading just for the lolz), and between these “harassing” tweets insert their spin on how TotalBiscuit is siccing his followers on people like this conversation weren’t taking place in a public forum viewable by anyone. Ugh.
This is a public service announcement for Social Justice Warriors. If you want to have a private conversation by typing, Twitter is NOT THE PLACE FOR THAT. They actually have a medium for that even older than Twitter: it is called e-mail. If you wish to have private communications with someone, use that. But please God stop bemoaning the fact that people call you out on your bullshit when you post your thoughts in a public space. This isn’t that fucking hard to understand, is it?!?
<breathes deeply>
Of course, it wouldn’t be #GamerGate without the usual cast of characters getting involved. So here’s Randi Harper advising about that:
Oh and here’s where TotalBiscuit (who is currently in treatment for cancer) is actually harassed about his real-life health problems.

This is the kind of harassment Anti-GG constantly accuses us of and can never prove, for some reason.
The crux of the situation
It turns out that Mr. Bain had a much more important reason to retweet the charity livestream—his company is partnered with The Ablegamers Charity! From his TwitLonger post concerning this entire scenario:
But yes that great crime and yesterday for promoting a stream for a charity with whom as of last month I have an OFFICIAL PARTNERSHIP WITH, I was bombarded with threats and even had an irrelevant ex-NFL player demand that games developers following him seriously reconsider working with our company.
Let me tell you Chris why companies work with us. Because we have a 5 year history of professionalism, honesty and fairness. With that we were able to build an audience that eclipses the vast majority of traditional games media and that is only going to grow come 2015. Youtube has outpaced traditional games media to the point where its relevance, at least when it comes to reviewing or even previews, is becoming more tenuous by the day. Those who do not adapt to this change in media consumption will surely fall by the wayside. Those of us did well, we are where we are now. Somehow, I doubt that 5 years of building relationships with these companies and proving time and again that they can trust us to do a good job, is going to be undone by your online warbling. It might however, make developers think twice before working with you, knowing that you are such a volatile public person whose priority seems to be a misguided political agenda built on falsehood and wilful misrepresentation of the facts. Not a spokesperson I would personally engage with for my company, certainly not.
Concerning TotalBiscuit’s audience, in response to this SJW’s have been tweeting #UnSubTB in an effort to deprive Mr. Bain of his audience and living. It’s worthwhile to note the hashtag is going nowhere fast and TotalBiscuit’s YouTube channel is now at 1.9 million and rising.
The unbelievable intolerance of the “socially just”
Despite his on-going recover process, TotalBiscuit is planning on doing his own charity livestream for Ablegamers to make up any donation they might have lost due to the idiocy of Durp and Tolvo. We can only hope Ablegamers has the sense to dump these morons, but considering charities take money where they can get it, it may not happen. And that’s the moral, really. If you’re asking for money for some kind of cause, you can’t really complain about whose money you’re getting, particularly when the disagreement is largely philosophical.
Here’s hoping this has no real world impact on the disabled that Ablegamers helps.
