How SJW’s Picked The Wrong Fight With #MetalGate

By now, you’ve probably read Sam Roberts’ outstanding article on #MetalGate, the latest attempt by SJW’s to sanitize the world of greatness they find offensive in their attempt to make the world an unoffensive and bland place (and if you haven’t, please do so now.  I’ll wait).

SJW’s have attacked the music industry before, of course.  The British invasion of the 1960’s, led by the Beatles, was widely protested and there was even an attempt to have John Lennon deported as an illegal alien for his anti-war sentiments, though it was eventually unsuccessful largely due to its close timing to the Watergate scandal.

If only he knew what that album would be worth today…

This, of course, had little effect on the success of the Fab Four, proving the adage that even bad publicity is good publicity.

While rock n’ roll criticisms have largely gone the way of the dodo (pun intended), the SJW’s recently renewed their attack on musical freedom of expression, and it’s no coincidence they chose metal for the next front line in the war to censor all things they don’t like.

The link between GamerGate and MetalGate

You may have noticed #MetalGate trending pretty hard on Twitter and being reposted by popular GamerGate personalities, and that is in no small thanks to David Draiman, frontman for the band that pretty much introduced me to metal, Disturbed.

Draiman tweet

Mr. Draiman’s logical and well stated opinion on the #GamerGate controversy had the reaction you might expect from SJW’s:  full-on hysterics and hissy fit, followed by attacking Mr. Draiman, followed by attacking his entire line of work and all members of the aforementioned genre.

Continuing with the playbook that these San Fransisco-based microcosm of bloggers have been using from the get go, they are now attempting to censor metal as a genre by condemning their use of the words “faggot” and “fuck,” among others.  Instead of applying the logic listed by Draiman and simply not listening to what offends them, they are actively trying to make a world where you don’t have the option to listen to metal.

Misjudging their audience

Full disclosure:  I am a hardcore gamer and have been for the majority of my life.  I have played video games instead of gone outside.  I have played video games instead of develop social skills.  I have played video games when I should have spent time with family members who are no longer with me.  All of that I recognize as wrong in some capacity.  But I tell you this for a reason—I can unequivocally state that gamers, as a group, are susceptible to social pressure.  One reason a lot of young men play video games is because they can be the hero, they can fit in with their guild, they can prove prowess with others.  So with gamers, SJW’s have a real shot at success, because gamers at their core do actually want to fit in, and video games is their escape because they don’t.

The metal crowd couldn’t be more different.

The metal crowd eschews conformity.  They want to be individual, unique and extreme—some of the MANY reasons why as a group, the metal crowd is surprisingly accepting of anyone and everyone.  If you tell them they are breaking the rules, you have made them happy.  If you think they are being too extreme, they know they are doing things just right.  These are people who leave a metal show with a bloody nose and a smile on their face.  They can’t hear properly for a week afterward and love every second of it.

Clearly these animals hate people of all kinds…

None of this is really important, though.  There is one basic reason that SJW’s will fail in their attempt to curtail the language and extremity of metal, and it’s because of what metal is, at it’s core.

If I could distill metal into a single phrase, it would be this: metal is the musical equivalent of the word “FUCK” aimed at society.

This is why the SJW’s will never win.  Their “victory,” if such a thing is possible, would be Pyrrhic.  It would destroy metal.  It would turn metal into pop rock, and metal is the violent musical reaction against pop rock.

No strategy that unites gamers will destroy metal

Despite their numerous setbacks and hypocrisy, SJW’s continue to follow the script.  It didn’t work against gamers—in fact, GamerGate has brought me in contact with people that as a conservative I probably never would have associated with.  GamerGate is actively uniting liberals with conservatives under the umbrella of freedom of expression.  But SJW’s don’t realize this, and have now attacked the metal crowd.  They’ll soon find out that all their strategy will accomplish is to unite hardcore gamers and the metal crowd into a righteous mob.

We will learn from each other—gamers will bring their knowledge of leveraging social media and e-mail, and the metal crowd will bring their extreme energy and uninhibited expression.  Together, marching in step, some wearing Converse while others wear steel toe boots, we will crush this censorship of our favorite mediums.

Here’s hoping SJW’s attack another group to join the march.
