The Enemies of Metal
Since I was in high school, I’ve always loved to rock out to Manowar. For those of you who don’t know Manowar, they sing songs about fighting kings, eight-dimensional horses, and most of all: standing as an army against the enemies of metal. While the songs are all awesome, one thing had always bothered me: who the hell are the enemies of metal?
The PMRC has been dead since the mid-90s, and nobody’s heard from Tipper Gore in so long that there’s good odds the guitarist from Cannibal Corpse ate her. Well, almost 30 years after the first attempts to ban heavy metal, a new threat has arisen: pussified losers calling themselves “Social Justice Warriors”, who want to turn heavy metal into a never ending college diversity seminar.
If you’re reading this piece, you’re probably familiar with the term “Social Justice Warrior”, or SJW for short. For those of you who haven’t, site owner RooshV has a good summary here. They’re far-left weirdos with nothing going on in their life, who try to inject their toxic, tiresome political ideology into every field imaginable. They’ve taken over Atheism, Science Fiction Books, and they were poised to take over video games until #Gamergate started roundly thrashing them. Now, with what’s being called #Metalgate, we’re finding out that they want to take over heavy metal too.
What is #MetalGate?
As this excellent post at Servile Insurrection, by metalhead and Touhou fan BreadGod, shows, the world of heavy metal is currently going through the same things that led up to #Gamergate. Things like language policing (Oh no! Metal fans are saying mean words) and attempts to push shitty bands simply because they’re being fronted by women.
For example, here’s Theis Duelund , talking about the metal world’s “bottomless capacity for misogyny” because they don’t like a terrible singer named Myrkur. (You can listen to her on that link. That song would lose at a middle school Battle of the Bands.)
He claims she has “game-changing potential to bring black metal to a listening audience beyond the extreme metal community.” Does that remind you of how we’ve heard from SJWs that gamers need to move away from Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty to bring in a “wider audience”? And instead of “the problem with Gaming is Gamers”, and “Gamers are Dead”, they’ve got “The Problem with Heavy Metal is Metalheads.”
This article, written by a preening sissy named Shayne Mathis, is a glimpse into the future that SJWs have in mind for metal. He starts off by saying that he’s “tired of always having to justify my love of metal” and proceeds to lecture metalheads for daring to use the word “faggot”. Like a prissy schoolmarm, he lectures the reader on the history of the word, and says you have “no excuse for using it” now that he has enlightened you. He even finishes with “Hopefully you’ll think twice about the language you use in the future.” My 3rd grade teacher said the exact same thing when she gave me a detention for saying “crap” in class.
Specifically, he calls out metal god Kerry King, guitarist of legendary metal band Slayer, for daring to use the “f-word”, as he calls it, in interviews. If you’re curious, here’s a picture of Kerry King. This is what a true lover of heavy metal looks like:
This is what Mr. Mathis looks like:
One of these two men is metal. One is not.
If these people get their way heavy metal will be neutered to the point where you could play it on a school bus. They’ll tell you that they just want to make metal better and more inclusive: don’t believe them. They said the exact same things about gaming, and now they’ve banned Grand Theft Auto V. Right now they don’t have a lot of influence with metal, but if they’re left alone, it won’t be long before they start behaving the same way they have with gaming.
You Must Fight Back
Many people seem to think that SJWs are unlikely to make any headway with metal. The idea of teaching political correctness to people who listen to song’s like Manowar’s “Hail and Kill” (Sample lyrics: “May your swords be wet – like a young girl in her prime.”) or Detroit Metal City’s “Rape that Girl” (Sample lyrics: “Rape Rape Rape Rape Rape”) is darkly hilarious. But I don’t think it’s safe to write them off so easily; you could’ve said the exact same thing about gamers. Gamers play games about running down prostitutes and games about girls with giant boobs playing volleyball, after all. And yet look at the mess we’re in now.
Just like in gaming, SJWs have taken over a lot of the music press. A music video that included some mild twerking was enough to send music reviewer and SJW Dom Lawson at the Guardian into a conniption fit.

If this freaks you out, heavy metal isn’t for you.
“It’s funny! Look at those vibrating butt-cheeks! Brilliant. It’s probably ironic or something. Well, no. It’s still sexist. I don’t care how much irony you throw at this. It was sexist when it happened in past videos and it’s still sexist now.”
The video, of course, barely pushes PG-13 rated. Compared to a GWAR show it’s practically a nursery rhyme. And yet it’s still being bashed in a national newspaper. If this isn’t stopped here, you’ll see a lot more of it in the future. And this is only the first step, the next is bans and boycotts.
If metalheads don’t want to end up neutralized and pussified, they’ll have to fight back. Gamergate shows the way here: if the media starts pushing a lousy band because its bassist has a vagina, mock them relentlessly. If a magazine starts hassling you like a schoolteacher for using naughty language, boycott them. Spread the word: if you’ve got twitter, use the hashtag #Metalgate. Don’t think The worst thing you can do is assume that somebody else will do your fighting for you. The enemies of metal have arisen, and it’s time to cut them down like dogs.
Update: An earlier version of this article incorrectly identified Kerry King as the frontman for Slayer. He is a guitarist. Reaxxion regrets the error.
