In a tweet, Hideo Kojima said that he and his team had been turned away from an after party at the Game Awards, along with the developers from Naughty Dogs studio.
They didn't let us in to after party due to the dress codes. Sneakers not allowed. Naughty Dog team also left because of that.

The tweet came from a confirmed account. Kojima’s Japanese account has a corroborative tweet corroborating the authenticity of the tweet.
パーティー会場に辿り着いたが、ドレスコードで入れなかった。スニーカーがダメみたい。ノーティドックも帰っていったw

It appears that Hideo Kojima, amongst others, were shunned away for their choice of attire (sneakers). Kojima is the creator of the Metal Gear video game series, one of the most critically acclaimed in the industry. Along with Kojima, the staff from Naughty Dogs, who made the critically acclaimed game “The Last Of Us”, were also turned away.
Being turned away from a fancy restaurant for wearing sneakers is nothing new, however if a venue has been arranged by the organisers, and I am inclined to think that it was, the organisers of the Game Awards can let in whomever they please and however they are dressed. Surely, if anyone would be worthy of attending an after party organised by the Game Awards it would be Kojima, however after seeing how the jury was comprised of people included in the GamerGate and DoritoGate cases I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised.
The sad part is that Kojima had travelled all the way to Los Angeles for the very first time to attend the event which he was invited to.
We are thrilled to announce that Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima will be appearing at The Game Awards next Friday to announce and world premiere Metal Gear Online. This mark’s Mr. Kojima first-ever trip to Las Vegas.
If I were Kojima in Kojima’s shoes I would be unimpressed.
This lamentable incident raises questions about the nature of the Game Awards. Gamers have long suspected that those in the self declared “elite” of gaming are out touch with their audience, but this is plain ridiculous. Kojima is more relevant to the industry than any pompous hipster twat in a suit. This episode may be a side effect resulting from the organisers having a diet which consists entirely on Mountain Dew and Doritos. (Kojima seems to prefer Miso soup and Oolong tea)

The Game Awards is supposed an event were those that make an important contribution to the industry get recognised for their efforts. The organisers ought to get their act together and instead of focusing on the attire of their guests they should look towards the contributions their guests made, after all, thats supposed to be the whole point.
Note: We tried to reach the organisers of the Game Awards for comment, we did not receive a response at the time of publication.
